The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS 400d 4MATIC (X167 second-generation) is the brand's flagship full-size 7-seater luxury SUV, often referred to as the "S-Class of SUVs". Built on Mercedes-Benz’s Modular High Architecture (MHA) platform, the 2020 GLS extended its wheelbase by 60mm compared to its predecessor, creating a cavernous, ultra-quiet cabin with three fully electrically adjustable seating rows as standard. Under the bonnet, the GLS 400d is powered by Mercedes's flagship 2.9-liter OM656 twin-turbocharged inline-6 diesel engine—the most powerful passenger car diesel unit in the brand's history. Delivering 330 PS (326 hp / 243 kW) and a massive 700 Nm of torque available from just 1,200 rpm, power is routed through a 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission and a fully variable 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system capable of torque vectoring between the front and rear axles. It features standard AIRMATIC air suspension with Adaptive Damping System Plus (ADS+), with select models equipped with the advanced 48V E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL hydraulic system. Inside, the cabin houses standard dual 12.3-inch MBUX widescreen displays, five-zone THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, ambient lighting with 64 colors, and optional second-row Executive Rear Comfort Package with a removable 7-inch Android control tablet. Luggage space offers 355 liters with all three rows upright, expanding up to 2,400 liters with all rear seats electrically folded flat.
