The 2019 Toyota Hilux TRD (Toyota Racing Development) is an aggressive, factory-tuned edition of Toyota’s legendary double-cab pickup truck, engineered to combine heavy-duty off-road durability with bold, motorsport-inspired styling. Positioned as a high-performance appearance and chassis upgrade over the standard SR5 or Legend 50 trims, the 2019 TRD edition stands out visually with its signature gloss-black TRD honeycomb front grille, bright red TRD front skid plate, extended black wheel-arch flares, tubular sports bar, black side steps, and 18-inch TRD matte-black light alloy wheels wrapped in aggressive all-terrain tyres. Under the bonnet, the 2019 Hilux TRD is primarily powered by Toyota's flagship 2.8-liter (2,755cc) 1GD-FTV 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, generating 177 hp (130 kW) and 450 Nm of torque when mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission (or 420 Nm with the 6-speed manual). In select regions like the Middle East, it is also available with a high-output 4.0-liter 1GR-FE V6 petrol engine producing 235 hp and 376 Nm. Power is managed through a part-time 4WD system with high/low range transfer modes and an electronic rear differential lock. Select TRD packages also feature upgraded TRD-tuned performance shock absorbers, which deliver improved damping, reduced body roll during high-speed gravel cornering, and higher resistance to heat fade during long off-road runs.
