The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan TSI (AD1 Second Generation) marks the debut of Volkswagen’s redesigned mid-size crossover built on the modular MQB (Modularer Querbaukasten) platform. Modernized with clean horizontal body lines, a wide chrome-slatted radiator grille integrated with LED headlights, prominent wheel arches, dynamic shoulder creases, and sharp geometric LED tail lamps, the 2017 Tiguan transitioned into a broader, lower, and significantly more spacious SUV than its predecessor. Trims across markets range from the entry-level Trendline, mid-tier Comfortline, and luxury Highline, to the sport-styled R-Line spec. Under the bonnet, petrol (TSI) options include two main turbocharged engine families: the 1.4-liter EA211 TSI 4-cylinder engine producing 125 PS to 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) and 250 Nm of torque, or the higher-performance 2.0-liter EA888 TSI 4-cylinder engine generating 180 PS up to 220 PS (217 hp / 162 kW) and 350 Nm of torque. Power is delivered through a 6-speed or 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission (or 6-speed manual in entry grades). Transmission output powers either Front-Wheel Drive (2WD) or Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system featuring Active Control mode selection. Inside, the cabin features driver-centric European refinement, soft-touch dashboard materials, a 12.3-inch Active Info Display digital instrument cluster (optional/Highline), an 8.0-inch Discover Media touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 3-zone Climatronic automatic climate control, panoramic sliding glass sunroof, and standard driver safety assists.
