The 2020 Volvo XC60 B5 (SPA Generation) is a luxury mid-size 5-seat crossover SUV that combines minimalist Scandinavian design, world-class safety engineering, and refined mild-hybrid efficiency. Sitting on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, the 2020 model year marked a key transition for the XC60 lineup, replacing traditional T5 petrol badging with the electrified B5 Mild-Hybrid setup. Visually, it carries Volvo's signature aesthetic, featuring "Thor’s Hammer" T-shaped LED daytime running lights, a prominent concave front grille, sculpted side flanks, vertical L-shaped LED taillights, and 18-to-20-inch alloy wheel options across Momentum, Inscription, and sporty R-Design trims. Under the bonnet, the B5 powertrain combines a 2.0-liter (1,969cc) turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system featuring an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). The combustion engine generates 250 hp and 350 Nm of torque, while the 48V electric architecture contributes an additional temporary boost of 14 hp and 40 Nm under acceleration. Power is routed through an 8-speed Geartronic automatic transmission to an Instant Traction All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system (or FWD in select markets). This mild-hybrid setup recovers kinetic energy during braking to recharge the 48V battery, powering electrical equipment, smoothing engine stop-start operations, and reducing urban fuel consumption.
